Run Away Girl

Run, run, run
Running away.
Haven't we all wanted to run away?
Dreamt of amazing things to happen in that day?

I was School Captain,
Year 12 and the pressure was on.
Everyone thought I was a con.
"Summer Rae, remember the name and I get the fame!"
I'd be onstage, that's where I shone
I'd act, get art and writing awards.
Dance to Michael Jackson in weird clothes including cords.
Fluffy fabric, safety pins, a holey stocking,
rainbow socks, green sunnies, just shocking!
The crowd would laugh and I would thrive
Creativity was my favourite guide.

Run, run, run
We would run laps in representative netball
Drop the ball, run
Step, run
Contact, run
Round and round the grassy courts
Our thighs and calves the best of sorts.

So why run you may wonder?
It's always the one thing that makes us tick
It's love of course
You know it!

In love, infatuated, ready to give my life to my young man
Older than me
By two years
With a beautiful chi.

He was set to leave Kempsey to take off to Brisbane chasing a dream of owning a pub,
To work with his uncle and brother bub.

So many assignments,
So many promises to the school not kept
I felt I was failing and wept and wept.

One early morning we decided to do it,
To take off in his mums spare car
Driving off into the sunrise
Holy shit!

I felt numb
I said goodbye to my best friend Bec
Hiding around the corner from her house
"Holy heck!"
"You're really going?! Ohhh!!"

It was exciting and new
The possibilities of life in Queensland
But without much sand.

Numb and shaking we left.
Two days later I returned.
Parents, uncles, aunts talked me into taking my exams.

Luckily, my High School Certificate was earned.
The car broke down, I walked five kilometers
I made it into the exam hall
Just as reading time started
You would have heard if someone farted!

So run, run if you must
But remember it's usually just lust.
Lust for future, the unknown, the fantasy.
You will learn the important things in life are education and hard work.
Love can't pay all the bills
Yeh, but it sure is grand
The fun and Queensland ;)
