Mrs Jones loved her garden
With its lettuce, spinach and berries,
But flowers were her favourite plants,
Sweet peas, daisies and pansies,
How she hated the hungry wild rabbits
That devoured her beloved plants.
Mr Jones built a fence of chicken wire
Around his wife's beloved garden
To keep those long eared creatures out,
And Mrs Jones would mock,
Hands on hips, she yelled,
‘Ha! Ha! Stupid rabbits, got you beaten!’
Noses twitching, the rabbits hopped round
That wire fence, yearning for tender leaves,
How Mrs Jones wept
The spring day those rodents
Burrowed under the fence
And destroyed her young flowers.
