was a time

I spilled the night out
looked over your dreams
took from here planted there
the why you wondered
was always me
spinning old pennies
whistling the one that won’t go away

a fingernail on a chalk board

then you disappointed me
your rem became boring
no longer a thing of fantastical chance
but a remake of your day
cloying inane fancies
a remit of iron leggings
that I already know the rusty about

save me then

dredge unwilling my gift
shake the doggy hours out
make love singing Jackie Wilson
turn into an angophora
think the ocean a snow
of a vanilla hurricane marshmallow
a dew lea of orchid brocade

give me a chance

show me the soul I created
can be a lantern
of incarnate refresh
an unkeyed contemplation
for me to read by cipher
in the hard hours
before I rest
