Grand Ridge Road Village

by James Walton (follow)
If you go to that town
where the crape myrtles flower
in crimson and white taffeta
turning main road into an arterial redolence,
and the murals depict life that was
remember the images as being
a small piece of each one of us
who paused on a solace journey,
looking toward the floating inlet
away to the southern border
how pyramid rock jettisoned the lines
of charts made for mariners,
old salts of remedies passed by word
and mouth and hand and crippled lettering
speak of us to the doubters
those drab in grey dismissal,
who never witnessed the ballad of grass returning
from fires without remorse
or ran the raging cusp to supply
the rascal wink of the lighthouse need.
