Facing the Crowds This Summer

I've worked in the events industry
For over 10 years this month
I have faced hundreds of thousands of people
At week long festivals
And at one day events

I have partied at new years
In Sydney city and at Queensland Woodford
At Falls Festival and Let Them Eat Cake
I have worked on Australia Day
Watching thousands of drunks everywhere

This year I am pregnant
And I do not wish to face the crowds
Anymore

I watched the fireworks at home
On the TV

The thought of facing crowds
Getting crushed
Getting pushed
Getting touched!
No more

I like the wide open spaces
And the company of loved ones
Not random young strangers
And older strange people

I will not be going to St Kida Festival
Or Laneway Festival
Or Australia Day celebrations

I want a backyard BBQ
With good friends
