Dogen Gate Inn

by James Walton (follow)
( leaning into wind, uncounting days
my waiting duties
Komachi and Shikibu, tea brews)

I wear my pyjamas inside out
in the best literary tradition
but awake without promised dreams
you were a spring mad wild horse
a true rain so black
like a charcoal drawing on mist
ten thousand candles I keep alight
heartbeats within the wind
see them flicker through windows
this splash of awareness
might return you to our temple
donít smell dead wildflowers and rear

Fushima Inari Taisha Shrine
