New year's day hip hip hooray
Friends and food and good times

Death toll on the roads rises
Every year we keep track

My partner got his P Plates
Late December last year

Two days later on New Years Day
He was driving home from yet another party

He had nothing to drink
He also had little sleep

I chose not to go with him to the party
I could have been in the passenger seat

I'm 5 months pregnant
And said at the last minute I did not want to go

On his way home traveling
At just 60 km/hr he was hit

T boned at a cross intersection
By a young L Plater and her grandma

A bystander called an ambulance
The police came too to get the details

The car was written off
And towed to Epping

My partner was taken to
Royal Melbourne Hospital

There he stayed for 2 nights
Two CT Scans later he was given the all clear

His injury report states a bleed in the brain
He is home now and feeling fine
