What motivated those explorers
To leave the safety of the known
And venture into the unwelcoming wilds?
What kept them going
To fight through scrub and prickles
Trekking up hills of hot sand?
Why were they willing
To face many a danger,
Snakes, burning sun, no water?
What gave them the strength
To explore and map this vast country
Of deserts and rocky plains?
